Maxi commences his title defence in the Deutsche Post Speed Academy
Second year on successful coaching programme
Full speed ahead into the new year at the German Post Speed Academy: Once again during the 2015 season, Maximilian Günther is a member of the squad being coached on Germany’s most successful programme for juniors. Expectations are high. In 2014, his debut year, Maxi secured victory overall in the Deutsche Post Speed Academy at his first attempt, coming out top in two of four assessment periods and winning through against five fellow competitors.
In addition to being named ‘Germany’s Motorsport Talent of 2014’, Maximilian received a grant of 70,000 euros to help him with his future racing career. He made the move up into the FIA Formula 3 championship earlier this year. At his debut race weekend in Silverstone, Maxi achieved a points scoring finish in his first Formula 3 race along with his team, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport.
Maxi: “I’m really looking forward to my second season in the Deutsche Post Speed Academy. Last year’s overall victory was a fantastic start for me. Of course, I would like to defend the title, but learning things towards my future in motorsport is the main priority in the Deutsche Post Speed Academy. The exciting workshops, as well as the jury’s know-how are ideal for that. I’m pleased and grateful to still be a part of the Speed Academy family.”
Throughout the season, both on and off the track, Maximilian will again be closely observed by an eminent jury who will be evaluating the performance of Germany’s top talents. Jury members include DTM star Timo Glock, legendary RTL reporter Kai Ebel and motor sport icon Klaus Ludwig. Former DTM champion and two time Le Mans winner Manuel Reuter also joins the jury this season.
The Deutsche Post Speed Academy offers its candidates a comprehensive, targeted training programme which promotes every aspect of their development as motor racing professionals. Experts give the young talents the skills necessary for their future careers in various training workshops, starting with the dynamics of driving and progressing through to fitness and mental training. Maxi extended his knowledge of self promotion and communication in the first workshop of the year.
As the overall winner of the Deutsch Post Speed Academy in 2014, Maximilian has big boots to fill. In recent years, the support programme has produced many well-known motor racing pros, including Formula 1 drivers Nico Hülkenberg and Adrian Sutil as well as DTM stars Timo Glock and Marco Wittmann. “Former graduates show where things can lead,” said Maximilian. “The move into the FIA Formula 3 Championship was an important step that I took with the support of the Deutsche Post Speed Academy – now I just need to go on delivering.”
