Ein Herz für Kinder: Maximilian Günther raffles off racing overalls at Cannstatter Wasen

20,000 euros raised in total

Maximilian Günther attended a special event with just a few days to go before the Formel ADAC finale at the Hockenheimring. The 17-year-old was a guest at the famous Cannstatt Wasen fair in Stuttgart, taking part in a charity event held during a fund-raising day themed around cars and organised for the second time by landlady, Sonja Merz. The ‘Herzrasen auf dem Wasen’ day took place on Tuesday 30th September in the Cannstatt Wasen festival tent run by Sonja Merz. Several thousand people flocked in the evening to the marquee decorated in motor racing style with the aim of participating in the Ein Herz für Kinder campaign organised by Bild hilft e.V.

Maximilian Günther donated a very special prize for the big tombola – the racing overalls that he wore during the 2013 season when he finished runner-up in the Formel ADAC. The campaign was a complete success with a total of 20,000 euros being raised in donations. All proceeds from the raffle go directly to Bild hilft eV’s charity project, ein Herz für Kinder.

“I think it’s great that so many people took part in this campaign for a good cause. It’s terrific that the guests donated so much,” said Maximilian after the prizes were handed out. “Of course, I enjoyed doing my bit by donating the racing overalls that I wore in 2013, the year I finished runner-up. I lead quite an interesting life as a young racing racer. And so, I think it’s important once in a while to take time out and help people who are not doing so well. I’m very pleased to be able to give something back by doing this.”

Apart from Maxi, other racing drivers and celebrities were also guests that evening in the Cannstatt festival tent on the Wasen, including two former DTM champions, Martin Tomczyk and Bruno Spengler, plus motorsport legend Hans Hermann and ex-Formula 1 driver Markus Winkelhock.

Racing continues at full throttle for Maximilian Günther. The grand finale of the 2014 Formel ADAC season takes place this weekend (October 3rd-5th) at the Hockenheimring. Maximilian is placed second in the championship ahead of the final three races of the year. His chances of successfully defending his runner-up title are excellent after securing four wins and nine podium finishes so far.
