Strong performance of Maximilian Günther at the final weekend of the ABB FIA Formula E season in New York was unrewarded

Maximilian Günther concluded his first campaign in the ABB FIA Formula E with another strong performance at the season finale with two races in New York. The GEOX DRAGON driver could not score points after his fifth place in Bern at the home event of his US-American team, but he impressed with a strong pace in both races.

The 22-year-old started into the twelfth race of the season on Saturday from eleventh place and with a great start and spectacular overtaking manoeuvres he was already sixth after two laps. A short safety car period on lap 21 brought the field back together and Maximilian fought again for a position in the top 10 until shortly before the end of the race. Just eight minutes before the chequered flag, the German was hit by an opponent whilst running in ninth place. The rear suspension of his Penske EV-3 broke during the collision so that he had to stop his car.

At the final race on Sunday on the 2.32 kilometre long Brooklyn Circuit Maximilian started from 18th place and fought for positions again. But one lap before the end he had to come to the pits due to technical issues and retired.

Being the youngest driver in the history of the ABB FIA Formula E, Maximilian clinched two top 5 finishes in Paris and Bern and scored a total of 20 points with GEOX DRAGON. In the final classification of the driver championship the German is in 17th position.

Maximilian Günther: „It was a tough weekend and I would have liked to collect points again at the home race of my team GEOX DRAGON. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with my performance in the race on Saturday, where I was running in the points again until the collision. I would like to thank my team GEOX DRAGON and my supporters who accompanied me all the time and made all this possible! I will learn from the experience gained my rookie season in ABB FIA Formula E and I will come back even stronger.“
