Maximilian Günther scores first points of 2025 in Mexico
Maximilian Günther battles to sixth place in controlled and calculated Mexico City E-Prix
Maximilian Günther secured his first points finish of the 2024/25 FIA Formula E World Championship season at the Mexico City E-Prix, with the German racer finishing sixth at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Max entered the second round of the current campaign in good spirits after showing encouraging pace in the first race of the season in São Paulo and opened the weekend in Mexico by establishing a clear performance baseline in FP1.
Overnight rain from Friday to Saturday meant that race day opened in damp conditions, but Max rose to the challenge by displaying good one lap speed as a consistent frontrunner in FP2.
He carried this form into Qualifying and by setting the fastest time of Group B, progressed to the session’s duel stages where he produced a 1:11.532 in the Quarter-Finals to start the Mexico City E-Prix from sixth on the grid.
In the race, Max held his starting position off the line and settled into an early energy-saving rhythm before increasing his pace as the race evolved to place pressure on the top five runners.
The DS PENSKE driver ran consistently inside the top 10 throughout, and by strategically timing the deployment of his two Attack Mode activations, strengthened his place inside the points-paying positions.
Despite facing two late Safety Car periods which bunched up the pack, Max remained in control to take sixth at the chequered flag and score eight points to move into 11th in the Formula E World Drivers’ Championship standings.
Max will be back in action on 14-15 February for the inaugural running of the Jeddah E-Prix – the first double-header event of the 2024/25 season with not one, but two nights of racing.
