Maximilian Günther faces challenging weekend in Miami
A challenging weekend at the Homstead-Miami Speedway
German racing driver, Maximilian Günther, navigated a challenging weekend at the 2025 Miami E-Prix as the FIA Formula E World Championship’s 11th season resumed in the United States.
After securing a spectacular victory at the Jeddah E-Prix in February, Max entered the fourth round of the current campaign with strong momentum and showed promising initial pace by placing inside the top 10 in FP1.
Following a challenging start to Saturday, however, Max and his DS PENSKE team experienced a difficult Qualifying session which left the 27-year-old starting from the rear of the field, demoted by a five-place grid penalty from Saudi Arabia.
Given the high energy demands of the Homestead-Miami Speedway, however, energy conservation was at the forefront of the race, and by settling into an early rhythm, Max opened an early advantage over his closest competitors.
As the race evolved, Max strategically used Attack Mode, alongside his energy offset, to battle into the points but shortly after his second deployment, was unfortunately caught up in a multi-car incident in Turn 10.
After pitting for repairs and navigating a late restart, Max took the chequered flag in 18th, showing clear potential in the mid-stage of the race.
With 37 points, Max holds fifth in the Formula E World Drivers’ Championship standings and will resume his season on 3-4 May with the double-header 2025 Monaco E-Prix.
Maximilian Günther, DS PENSKE Driver
“We had a very difficult weekend. Following a promising first practice session, we didn’t manage to find a good performance window on race day. I‘ve got to say that the surface was very abrasive and we suffered because of that. Qualifying didn’t match our expectations but we were still determined to run a good race with an intelligent strategy and optimal energy saving. That mission was nearly accomplished as we were close to the points before the incident that I was involved in. At the chicane, I was completely sandwiched, which really compromised the rest of my race.”
